Pretty much. Threaded group conversation is not at all what tumblr is designed to do. I still favor email lists for that, myself. Others prefer message boards. The LiveJournal/Dreamwidth code platform is fairly decent as well. Any are better than tumblr for this purpose. And there are still plenty of all of those out there, although in various states of desolation as it seemed everyone went to Myspace, then to Facebook, etc. - Facebook btw is also a weak platform for threaded group conversation. (ditto deviantArt, which I saw someone mention derogatively; it’s fine as an art-gallery kind of focused journal - you post a picture, people leave comments on it - but again, pretty weak for a group who wants to talk to each other, at least at present.)
