Those are valid points. I think what might work better would be local otherkin groups that could meet up.
There are local otherkin groups that meet up: http://dreamhart.org/links/#meetups
There are also regional mailing lists and livejournal communities for people who want to plan minigathers, meetups, etc.
YES. Please, tumblr people. This is a relatively new online community with a big disconnect from the past, it seems. There ARE regional lists and things out there - just not directly on tumblr (which isn’t a good platform for this kind of thing). Don’t think it means such resources don’t exist. We “oldtimers” would be quite happy to see old regional communities spring into life again and maybe be able to get some local hearth activity going.
For those in the west, here’s some regional resources:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/westkin - For otherkin west of the Rockies, especially in WA, OR, and CA
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/portlandorelfkin - for kin in PDX
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/socalkin - for kin in southern California
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nor_cal_otherkin exists, but the owner seems to be AWOL, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to join it right now as no messages can get through (the group is moderated).
http://www.meetup.com/sfbayotherkin - for otherkin in the San Francisco Bay area. This meetup is live and the next event is tomorrow, April 14th, in Fremont, CA!
http://eristic.net/fey/gathers - California gather MythiCalia and, secondly, Feywood (although I have no plans to do another Feywood at this time, and MythiCalia is on hiatus pending more interested people: please contact me if you’re interested in MythiCalia!)
There are other regional lists out there… try searching on Yahoo Groups for “otherkin” + your region or city of choice.
Please reblog for those on the West coast of the US!
